This week…
*Reading: Students will work on a non-fiction text unit. Students will use their non-fiction reading
skills to comprehend, discuss, and defend their thoughts on topics, issues, and
or themes from non-fiction articles that relate to our environment. Students will use their non-fiction reading
skills to have small group discussions. Wordly Wise words for this week are: graduate, frustrate, vigorous, stresses,
urges, prank, diagram, primary, vacant, risky.
*Writing: Students will edit, revise,
and work on their final draft of their informational writing piece.
*Math: Students will wrap up their study on place value and
decimals by finding the fractional parts of a whole using a meter stick and
base-ten blocks. Students will also use
a number line and a meter stick to order decimals through the hundredths
place. Students will review unit 5 on
Thursday and take a unit 5 test on Friday.
*Social Studies: Last week students read
about and discussed life in the Midwest during World War II. This week students will read and discuss an article in their
Time For Kids about the 40th anniversary of World War II. The article will also discuss Rosie the
Riveter and symbolism of her famous poster.
*Science: Students will continue their
unit on Plant Pals from The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.

Science Fair preparation has begun! Please see the packet that was sent home on regarding
expectations, due dates, and date of science fair. If you have any questions feel free to
contact me. On Wednesday, May 5th
students will need to turn in a list of their materials needed for their
completion of their science project as well as their procedure for conducting
their experiment. Students should
begin conducting their experiment this week!

***PARCC Testing will begin this week (Monday-Wednesday)***
v
Students should be practicing their math facts everyday!!
Students should be building fact power with addition, subtraction, and
multiplication facts!!! Students may do flashcards, games online, Think Through
Math, or any other type of fact practice.
v
Weather permitting; students will go outside for recess, please
make sure your child is dressed appropriately!
v
Please make sure your child wears gym shoes on Thursdays and
Fridays!
v
Homework is always dependent on what we get done in class that
day! Please refer to your child’s agenda for the most up to date homework
assignments!!!
